I have been teaching preschool for 35 years. I started working with children when my own children were young. I always had a house full of kids and loved it. When they moved on to preschool I did too. I taught at Mullen Way nursery school before moving to Sand Castle children’s Center. I eventually bought Sandcastle and changed it to The Rainbow Place. The Rainbow Place started in 1997 on the corner of Cook and Pease Point Way in Edgartown. We moved to our current location in 2000 and I was able to build my own house to live on the property with the school.
I love a good puzzle, mystery or game. I love living on Martha’s Vineyard and enjoying all the beautiful spots we have to explore. I love to travel. I have a second home, a castle, in Orlando Florida that I try to visit as often as I can. It is truly a magical place.
My favorite thing about teaching is the excitement and joy when a child learns or sees something they have never seen before. Creating wonder and helping children to learn the importance of kindness and believing in themselves.
I think wishing, believing and dreaming are important
When I grow up I want to laugh, travel, live in my castle, sail the seas, and make the world a better place.
3 things I have learned;
1. Every one of us has a different and unique story that makes us who we are. Meeting people where they are is much easier than dragging them to where you wish they would be.
2.In the end only kindness matters. It is what we all need and what we remember fondly when we walk away.
3. Expect the unexpected and never give up! You never know what event, chance or interaction is right around the next corner.
