I have been teaching preschool for 37 years. I started working with children when my own children were young. I always had a house full of kids and loved it. When they moved on to preschool I did too. I taught at Mullen Way nursery school before moving to Sand Castle children’s Center. I eventually bought Sandcastle and changed it to The Rainbow Place. The Rainbow Place started in 1997 on the corner of Cook and Pease Point Way in Edgartown. We moved to our current location in 2000 and I was able to build my own house to live on the property with the school.
I love a good puzzle, mystery or game. I love living on Martha’s Vineyard and enjoying all the beautiful spots we have to explore. I love to travel. I have a second home, a castle, in Orlando Florida that I try to visit as often as I can. It is truly a magical place. My favorite thing about teaching is the excitement and joy when a child learns or sees something they have never seen before. Creating wonder and helping children to learn the importance of kindness and believing in themselves. I think wishing, believing and dreaming are important When I grow up I want to laugh, travel, live in my castle, sail the seas, and make the world a better place. 3 things I have learned; 1. Every one of us has a different and unique story that makes us who we are. Meeting people where they are is much easier than dragging them to where you wish they would be. 2.In the end only kindness matters. It is what we all need and what we remember fondly when we walk away. 3. Expect the unexpected and never give up! You never know what event, chance or interaction is right around the next corner. |

I have been teaching preschool
for a wicked long time! All my time teaching has been at The Rainbow Place. I love my dogs and cats, walking all over the island, Disney, cooking, my kids, and sunshine. My favorite thing about teaching I love seeing all the kids I have taught when they get older and hearing what they remember about Rainbow Place and me! It makes me happy to know we have made an impact on their lives. I think loving what you do for work is important. When I grow up I want to be Ursula the Sea Witch I have learned that training dogs and training children are pretty much the same thing. Heidi Schwab
I have been teaching preschool for 20 years and this will be my 21st year at Rainbow Place. I did a work study here while I was in high school and never left!
I love to knit, take pictures, and cook with my kids. My favorite thing about teaching is watching children grow. I think it is important to listen. When I grow up I want to be a photographer. I have learned that kids can tell you the funniest things. |

I have been teaching preschool for 20 years; 18 of those at Rainbow Place. I am a teacher, an artist and a mom.
I love art, books, movies, animals, nature, science, laughter, talking, time with my family and Disney World. My favorite thing about teaching is getting to be a part of all the early discoveries, magic, and wonder that happens in early childhood and helping children be the best they can be...and the laughter. There's just so much laughter! I think being kind is important. When I grow up, I want to be organized. I have learned that fostering patience, flexibility, and independence is invaluable for children's growth and learning and celebrating kindness and individuality makes them better people. |
